Health Behaviors and the Risk Factors that come with them
•Diet and Nutrition
Eating habits and food choices, such as consuming a balanced and healthy diet or avoiding unhealthy foods. Presumably saving oneself from the doom of obesity.
Risk factors that are involved with diet and nutrition may be, excessive caloric intake where overeating is afoot and consuming too many calories will lead to obesity. High sugar intake where foods high in sugar may have diabetes fall upon you, type 2 diabetes, heart failure and dental problems. High sodium intake wherein consuming too much salt can raise blood pressure and increase cardio diseases. The one time you're being salty and your body does this to you. Low fiber intake which can lead to digestive problems, qnd increased chances of colorectal cancer. Poor diet composition, this one is name suggestive, consuming a fier which lacks many essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and vitamins. Inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption which is more or less the same as poor diet composition, if you didn't know by now, fruits are abundant in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
As you can see these are naught but only a fraction of the many risk factors in a single health behavior.
•Physical activity
As the name itself suggests, exercises, fitness routines, and the level of daily physical activity in one's everyday life.
These could be working out at the gym, going for a jog or a run, martial arts training, and many more.
As such physical activity may also pose many risk factors. As such, having a sedentary lifestyle or prolonged periods of sitting and relaxing allows the body to rest, but it also weakens the muscles due to inactivity. Cardiovascular diseases are also present. As I've said before, a sedentary lifestyle comes with many risk factors itself as well, such as heart diseases in which can lead to high blood pressure and high cholesterol. One such risk factor is present in most adults living and breathing today. Osteoporosis is a risk factor, staying sedentary can contribute to bone density loss, in other words weakened bones.
•Sleep or sleeping in general
Sleep patterns, sleep hygiene, the quality and duration of one's sleep.
Poor sleep hygiene or excessive gadget use or screentime before bed is one of many risk factors associated with this. High stress and anxiety, even depression can make sleeping harder than it possibly should be, this may lead to insomnia and is overall a sleep disturbance. Caffeine and stimulants may also affect the quality of your sleep, be it preventing you from sleeping or staying asleep. Alcohol may also be a risk factor, though after alcohol consumption, one will feel drowsy or lead to a fragmented sleep. Environmental factors, obviously where you lie down and sleep is an important factor. Night jobs, or just general work shifting schedules can disrupt sleeping duration and take a significant effect on sleep quality. Sedentary lifestyle, again this one also has close ties with the recent risk factor, as such having a sedentary lifestyle can lead to shitty sleep quality but regular exercising will provide a better quality of sleep.
•Substance use
Substance use, meaning alcohol consumption, drugs, tobacco, meth, cocaine and such. These can and will have negative and positive effects on an individuals health. Peer pressure is one risk factor that is associated with this health behavior. Peer pressure in friend circles is where substance use is most prevalent. Likely so, development of a deeper substance use addiction may develop. Mental health disorders or individuals with anxiety, depression, or stress may be more vulnerable to substance abuse as a way to cope.
Childhood trauma may also lead to substance use as a way to numb the pain, a way to cope as well. Lack of awareness and cultural factors. These will have an effect on one's substance use.
•Stress management
How an individual manages to overcome stress or deal with it. One can not simply remove stress, so how? By dealing with it, by facing it. Finding a way to cope, relaxation techniques, mindfulness practices, and open mindedness consideration to things that matter. Lack of coping strategies, an individual can say that he knows how to deal with stress, but also be clueless at the same time. With the lack of coping strategies, a person can fall apart, slowly be broken piece by piece if he does not deal with the stress. Lack of social support or support in general. Without the support of family or friends, one can doubt himself/herself, this is where people don't have anyone to go to in crucial times. Economic status or limited resources, having limited resources or dealing with the current economic or financial status can lead to deeper stress and overall making it harder to deal with. Personality traits can also contribute on how one handles stress, such as anxiety or nonchalance.
Environmental state or factors, obviously the environment you are in, say for example you live in the middle of a swamp filled with gators and ogres, wouldn't you be stressed? Lack of self care and unhealthy coping, lack of self care may lead to some detrimental life outcomes and unhealthy coping might lead to drug use or possibly something worse.
•Hygiene
Personal hygiene practices, such as handwashing, oral care, proper scrubbing and what not. Risk factors related to poor hygiene practices can lead to various health and social issues. Lack of Clean Water, in areas with inadequate access to clean and safe water, individuals may struggle to maintain basic personal hygiene, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. Poor Sanitation, absence of proper sanitation facilities, like toilets and sewage systems, can lead to the contamination of water sources and the spread of diseases. Inadequate Handwashing: Failing to wash hands regularly and thoroughly can contribute to the transmission of infectious diseases, including respiratory infections and gastrointestinal illnesses.
•Social and emotional well being
An individuals social oremotional well being may be influenced by a variety of factors such as interactions with other people and relationships as well. Risk factors are also included, be it positive or negative. Mental Health Disorders, conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia can significantly affect emotional well-being.Trauma and Stress, exposure to traumatic events or high levels of chronic stress can lead to emotional distress and reduce well-being.Poor Coping Strategies, ineffective coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse or avoidance, can hinder emotional resilience.
